In construction management, understanding how projects are built in the field can make all the difference. For Josh Rorrie, that practical experience has shaped his entire career.
Josh studied architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he developed skills in design, planning, estimating, and scheduling. At the same time, he was acquiring practical experience in carpentry and residential construction. While architecture gave him an understanding of how projects are designed, working in the field showed him how buildings actually come together. Having worked across both design and construction, Josh brings a well-rounded perspective to his role. As he puts it,
“I’ve worked in just about every part of construction — from drawing plans to building them in the field — so I understand how everything actually comes together.”
After graduating, Josh started his own residential construction business, managing projects from start to finish. Running his own company meant overseeing everything from estimating and scheduling to coordinating subcontractors and completing the work on site.
He later transitioned into larger commercial projects, spending several years working in the hospitality sector, managing hotel and restaurant construction. In those roles, he served as both Superintendent and Project Manager, coordinating trade partners, managing schedules and budgets, and guaranteeing quality across complex building systems.
Through those experiences, Josh learned an important lesson: successful construction depends on strong teams. Working with knowledgeable, licensed, and reliable subcontractors is critical to keeping projects moving smoothly and maintaining quality throughout the build.
“You can have the best plans in the world, but the success of a project really comes down to the people executing it,” he says — a perspective that continues to guide his approach today.
At KCM, Josh manages renovation and new construction projects throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. His portfolio includes work for Family Service of Rhode Island, improvements at Portsmouth Abbey School, and several commercial renovation projects across the region.
Because Josh has worked across both design and construction, from architecture studios to active job sites, he brings a practical perspective to every project. His ability to understand how drawings translate into real construction helps him anticipate challenges early, work effectively with subcontractors, and guide projects to completion. That mindset is also what he enjoys most about the work.
“I prefer being out in the field, solving problems in real time and seeing the work take shape — that’s the part of the job I enjoy most.”
Originally from Walpole, Massachusetts, Josh brings both local knowledge and broad construction experience to KCM’s growing Construction Management Division.
Outside of work, he enjoys staying active with golf, skiing, basketball, pickleball, and softball.
