At KCM Group, leadership starts with a clear objective: protecting the owner’s interests at every stage of a project. For President Dan Secone, that principle has shaped both his career and the company’s direction.
With more than 25 years of experience in construction and project management, Dan brings a thorough knowledge of how projects move from concept to completion. His background spans field experience, project management, and executive leadership, a combination that informs his approach to each challenge.
“Everything comes back to the client,” he says. “Our role is to make sure their priorities stay front and center from day one.”
Before stepping into his current role as President, Dan built his career leading complex projects across multiple sectors, including education, manufacturing, and institutional work. That experience, both in the field and on the management side, gives him a broad perspective on what it takes to deliver successful project outcomes.
“You have to understand how things are built, but also how decisions impact the bigger picture,” he explains.“When I became an OPM, I started taking things from concept to completion and I loved it. Prior to that I always felt like I was walking into a project where things had gone wrong, the design was uncoordinated, and I was gone and onto the next project before everything was finished. I never got to see things through from beginning to end. As an OPM, I have that opportunity.”
Dan’s relationship with KCM started while he was working as an OPM at Electric Boat. KCM founder Ray Keough had recently won several contracts for work at EB and Dan’s great relationships within the organization made him a natural fit for a Senior Project Manager position at KCM.
Since joining KCM, Dan has played a key role in the firm’s growth, helping guide its transition to employee ownership and growing its presence across the region. Despite that growth, the focus has remained consistent.
“We’re here to advocate for the owner,” he says. “That’s what drives every decision we make.”
That clarity extends beyond individual projects to how KCM operates as a team, emphasizing communication, accountability, and long-term relationships.
“At the end of the day, it’s about trust,” Dan adds. “If you can build that with your clients and your team, everything else follows.”
